Internationally acclaimed conductor Maestro Manfred Honeck (Music Director, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra) was the final speaker of the 2015-16 Art of the Beautiful series, sponsored by the Thomistic Institute and the Catholic Artists Society. In his very entertaining and informative presentation, Maestro Honeck addressed Faith in Music, delving into passages from Mozart and Bruckner’s works. (Photo by Felix Broede)
The Catholic Artists Society celebrated another milestone with the annual Mass for Artists. Held on the Feast of Corpus Christi at the charming Our Lady of Pompeii Church in the West Village, the Solemn Mass included a Eucharistic procession around Fr. Demo Square. The musical setting of the Mass Ordinary was the stunning Missa sopra l’aria della Monica by Girolamo Frescobaldi (1583-1643). And of course there was much camaraderie at the reception following. Special thanks to the pastor of Our Lady of Pompeii, Fr. Walter Tonelotto for welcoming us, and to the sacred ministers: Fr. Michael Barone (Celebrant and homilist), Fr. Seán M. Connolly (Deacon), and Fr. Matthew MacDonald (Sub-deacon). We look forward to more Catholic Artists Society events after the summer break!
